We%26#39;ll be staying at the Hilton Old Town next week and would appreciate some restaurant suggestions. We don%26#39;t mind walking or even a cab ride. My husband, myself and our 10 year old.....so nothing ';romantic'; or extravagant. Thanks so much!
Restaurant questions.....Also, forgot to ask about Crab Houses. We would love to visit a great crab house during our stay......willing to drive wherever. Any suggestions?
Restaurant questions.....Here are some of my favorites:
Austin Grill (Tex Mex, funky %26amp; fun atmosphere) http://www.austingrill.com/
Mai Thai (Thai, nuevo Asian atmosphere, upstairs has a view of the river) http://www.maithai.us/virginia/virginia.htm
Bugsy%26#39;s (Casual pizza, Chicago crust and more) www.bugsyspizza.com/bugsysrestaurant.htm
Bittersweet Cafe (Casual cafe, good breakfast, yummy desserts) http://www.bittersweetcatering.com/
Check the Alexandria website for more info:

Also...
Eamonns (A casual Dublin chipper, I haven%26#39;t been there yet...but it is getting good reviews) http://www.eamonnsdublinchipper.com/
runsooz.....thanks so much for the tips.....they sound great!
I would also recommend Pat Troy%26#39;s Ireland%26#39;s Own Restaurant and Pub. It%26#39;s within walking distance from the hotel (less than 2 blocks) and has some really neat military memorabilia hanging up inside the restaurant/bar. It%26#39;s an Irish pub atmosphere - good live music in the evenings and Guinness, Smithwick%26#39;s and Harp on tap. But it%26#39;s completely appropriate for a 10 year old boy - my boys loved our evening there. And don%26#39;t miss seeing the Lincoln Memorial at night - the lighting makes the experience very moving. I also highly recommend the Vietnam Veteran%26#39;s Memorial and the Korean War Memorial - all good experiences for a 10 year old. And lots of walking so they%26#39;re exhausted at night!
Gotta try the Fish Market on King street about a block from the water - probably a 15 minute walk from the Hilton
I ate at Eamonn%26#39;s today. I just posted a review for it so it should show up in a few days.
I read about it in Northern Virginia Magazine back in March and had wanted to try it. I really liked it. I%26#39;ve never had fish and chips before (unless you count the %26#39;70s with Arthur Treatchers!) so I didn%26#39;t know what to expect. I really liked it. The place is small, it%26#39;s on the corner and they have 4 wooden tables with benches that can seat about 6 and then a counter with about 6 stools. It%26#39;s counter service.
The place doesn%26#39;t smell fishy at all and my food wasn%26#39;t fishy either. I ordered the cod and it was nice and crispy, fresh fish and very moist and flakey inside. Lots of grease though, which I believe is how it%26#39;s supposed to be. They have a variety of sauces and they gave me a sample of all of them to try.
My lunch came to $12 with tip (fish, fries, soda).
The staff is great and helped me decide what to get. I even got a serenade of Come on Eilene when it came on. LOL!
For good crab shacks, you are going to have to head to the Bay.
The two I like are Cantlers (family friendly) and Abners (biker bar by night).
Hard Times Cafe. Great chili--they have other things, too! One of the most reasonably priced places I ate in the whole D.C./Alexandria area. I believe it%26#39;s right on King St, maybe a block or two fro the Hilton Alexandria Old Town. Very rustic inside. Of all the places I%26#39;ve eaten, I will return there just for the chili!
We had great food at O%26#39;Connell%26#39;s Pub in Old Town. We also took the bus to Mango Mike%26#39;s on Duke St. I%26#39;m not sure how the locals perceive it, but we loved it. Seafood and Caribbean food. The decorations were a little cheesy, but perfect for kids, IMO. They have a lobster special for 12.99 if you go early on Tuesdays, I%26#39;m not sure about crab though.
