Which part of the beach is better in your opinion: at 19th Street (in front of Fairfield Hotel) versus at 9th Street (in front of SpringHill Suites Hotel)?
I am planning a trip with my wife and kid to VB this August. We will bring our own beach umbrella and chairs. But I heard that the beach umbrella rental company had set up their rental umbrellas in long stretches of the beach leaving only small stretches in between their long stretches for beachgoers who brought beach umbrellas themselves. Any info on this would be appreciated.
In addition to comparing the beach at 19th St. versus 9th St., please provide suggestions on dining at the 19th St. area versus the 9th St. area. I know Tautog is closer to 19th St. than 9th St., and Black Angus is closer to 9th St. than 19th St. Any other restaurants we should try if our hotel is at 9th St.?
Is the fishing pier closer to 19th St. than 9th St.?
Is there is quick bypass to get on I-264 from the 9th St. without driving north on Atlantic Avenue? Thanks.
19th St. versus 9th St.
The fishing pier is at 14th St.; I prefer 9th st to 19th because it is a bit quieter, if you like more action then 19th is best; I was not aware of the umbrella situation; Back way to I264 from 9th, take Norfolk Av to Artic or Mediterran to 22nd St (out) or 21st St (in). Hope this helps some, I%26#39;m sure other will recommend restaurants and provide additional info. Enjoy Va Beach.

Goneagain2:
Thanks for your input. Yes, I am leaning toward 9th Street because of your comment that 9th Street is quieter.
What about the fireworks on Sunday and Wednesday night (9 pm??, or later?)? Is it better seen from the beach at 9th St. than 19th St.?
I don%26#39;t think one would necessarily be better than the other. The fireworks are set off from a barge in the water so they are easily seen from almost anywhere along the oceanfront. I guess because 19th St in more in the middle of the boardwalk (runs from about 1st to 40th Sts) that could be a slightly better vantage point.
Where the umbrella rentals are will have no impact on where you set up.
Click on Virginia Beach Overview and then scroll down to ';Know Before You Go.'; There look for the link to 32 articles written by locals. Eventually you should find a link to Dining where we have grouped topics that might help you decide on dining. Restaurants in and around Rudee Inlet would be close to 9th.
Wendymath:
Thanks for the info. I think I remember Rudee Inlet is where the trolley that runs on Atlantic Avenue ends. The last time I was in Virgnia Beach last year, I enjoyed riding on the trolley, but I did not get off at Rudee Inlet because I did not see any shops. May be this time I should get off the trolley at the terminal at Rudee Inlet and walk around to find a restaurant.
VBDro, you%26#39;ve recommended them seven times today. You much really like them. Have you stayed there?
