Any recommendations in Williamsburg for a family of five (ages 9, 7, 5). First time trip to CW.
Will CW keep the interest of a five year old or should we consider other options such as Busch Gardens?
Hotel Recommendations: Family of FiveWhen are you planning to visit. Busch gardens opens for the weekend only starting mid March. I would recommend you look into the Great Wolf Lodge. Great for the kids.
Hotel Recommendations: Family of FiveWe%26#39;ll be there in early April.
Our family of four has stayed at both the Woodlands and Great Wolf Lodge. We loved them both, for different reasons.
The Woodlands is very convenient to CW, within walking distance of the Visitors Center and bus loop. We also really enjoyed the 20 minute walk to CW, past the new farm exhibit. The Woodlands was also great because there is an onsite restaurant--Huzzah--with good carryout pizza. (My children do not really have the patience for fine dining!) There is free mini golf and a playground. Breakfast gets really crowded around 8:30, but since my children are early risers, we never had a problem!
Our youngest was 2 last summer, and loved the visit. There are lots of animals around to see--he loved the horses. Plus there are lots of neat nooks and crannies for younger children to explore, like the gardens and yards. The bookstore at the Visitors Center has great books for younger children that can explain the experience and put it into context.
We also stayed two nights at Great Wolf Lodge. During those days, we only left the hotel to make a trip to the grocery store. (Vacationing on a budget--we stocked up on fresh fruit and veggies at the grocery store salad bar to augment our hotel pizza diet!) My 8 year old and 2 year old loved the indoor water park, which is included in the room rate. I did too. The wizard game MagiQuest--which I was skeptical of--turned out to be a wonderful quest for my husband and older son.
Hope this helps!
CW is a pretty interesting place but your kids will let you know when and if they need a change, they%26#39;ll probably be fine for at least 2 days. Busch Gardens should be enjoyable for everyone and you could wait a few days into your trip to see if that would be a nice addition to the vacation, it%26#39;s a great place. You may also want to consider Jamestown, lots of history but also very cool exhibits, glassblowing, replica of ships, etc. If you follow the suggestion of a previous poster regarding Great Wolf Lodge (waterpark), I noticed a forum thread with a discount code, look for it on the 1st page of the forum. Enjoy the area.
The first time we took our kids they were 2, 5 and 9. They loved CW! We stayed at Powhatan Plantation and it was wonderful. Indoor and out door pools, putt-putt, nature trails, etc. We would do CW during the mornings, and then go back to the condo and let the 2 yo nap while the other swam or played putt putt or something and then we%26#39;d go back to CW for parades and dinner. One day- we drove to Virginia Beach and aother day we did Jamestown.
For us, it was a wonderful, affordable vacation!
Enjoy!
