Will be traveling to Williamsburg in June with husband and my 13-yr-old daughter and 12-yr-old son. We want to see the historic areas as well as Busch Garden and the water park. How many days and nights would you recommend staying in the area?
Also do you know of any special deals for entry to the above sites?
Thank you for your wisdom!
How long to stay in Williamsburg
You might want to plan a day for each thing listed. Busch Gardens definitely takes an entire day and the water park is separate and your children would probably want to stay there all day! As far as the historic section - it can easily be covered in a day . If you like to shop you might want to add an extra day as there are several outlets and a Huge Yankee candle store. Check Busch garden web site for any discount tickets they may offer. Have fun and prepare yourself for the Virginia heat and humidity!!!!
How long to stay in Williamsburg
With a family, definitely a day apiece for the water park %26amp; Busch Gardens.
Whether your family can see the historical area in a day depends upon how much they enjoy Revolutionary War era history. It%26#39;s enough for some, but for me, a day is really breezing through. I admit I%26#39;m a hard case, but I%26#39;ve been visiting Colonial Williamsburg for many years and I always take three or four days.
In the summer, there is a pass called the 7-4-1. It provides admission to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, both Jamestown sites, and both Yorktown sites. For all the attractions, it%26#39;s a pretty good deal. I recommend at least 2 - 3 days for CW, 1 day for the Jamestowns, 1 day for the Yorktowns, and a day each for each of the Busch parks. With a flexible pass such as the 7-4-1, you can spend part of a day at one place, then go to another if you want. For example, morning at CW, afternoon at Water Country, and and evening program at CW can be done.

Many thanks for your advice. Wondering though do you think middle school children would be able to handle 2-3 days of touring the historic areas?
Yes, I do, particularly if you split up the days so it%26#39;s not 2 or 3 days of non-stop touring.
Look for things that appeal to your children. The gunsmith, the peruke (wig) maker, the brickyard, the Palace kitchen, marching along with the fife and drum corps, getting gingerbread and cold cider at the Raleigh Tavern bake shop, and chores and games at the Powell house are all things that the kids enjoy. Not all kids and not all of the time, but in general.
If you have an extra day during your trip to W%26#39;burg and your kids like the beach, consider driving about an hour (depending on traffic, avoid rush hours and Fri, Sat, Sun) to Va Beach. Nice wide beach, surfing lessons, 2 1/2 mile concrete boardwalk for walking, roller blades, bikes (lots of bike rental places). Most evenings during the summer there is live music at 2 or 3 different stages along the oceanfront/boardwalk. Enjoy your Virginia trip.
I%26#39;m like Old Hoo, especially with the Jamestownes. I could spend a day at the Jamestowne Settlement and a day doing the Glasshouse and Historic Jamestowne Island. Your kids will love both of them, I think. Jamestowne Settlement has the 3 ships, which you can go aboard at least one, the native american village, and James Fort reproduction. JS has a marvolous new gallery with awesome exhibits. HJI has the new Archearium, which has skeletons which most kids like to look at. But it should be looked at with reverence, of course. I could spend a full day at Yorktown. Walking the quaint little streets, walking along the river, touring the battlefield and visiting the Yorktown Victory Center Museum. And I could spend at least 3/4 days doing CW and more if I could stay longer. Try to see an evening performance if you can. ';Cry Witch'; is my favorite. I haven%26#39;t seen ';To go a%26#39;pirating'; yet, but that%26#39;s next on my list the next time we go there. Have a great time, there is so much to see and do there. It%26#39;s my favorite place in the world. (Well, I haven%26#39;t been to Paris yet! haha)
