When is the 2008 Pony SwimThe Pony Swim takes place on the last Wednesday in July, every year. This year it takes place on July 30th. They swim the ponies at slack tide, which can be from 7:00am to 1:00pm, depending on the tide.

Slack tide is the very short period (from 1 to 3 hours ';generally';) when the ocean is close to a balance in tidal movement. It occurs between high and low tide.

The swim takes maybe 15 minutes. Waiting for it takes longer.

Pretty much you should get there really early if you want to watch them swim, but be prepared to wait until the tide is right. The swim really takes about 15 minutes. Once they get on land they rest the ponies for about 30 mins or so and then they start their way to the carnival grounds.
