Hi everyone,
We are planning to spend time in VA (still a little hazy on the details but probably Norfolk-Williamsburg-Richmond-Charlottesville-ish) around 18-23 March. Can anyone tell me if this is a big spring break time for VA schools? We want to factor that into our planning if there are lots of families around that time of year.
Thanks!
Is mid-March busy in VA?
As far as I know, most schools will be out that week. I think if you are worried about crowds-most folks would be in the D.C. area, or Virginia Beach area-but the fact that Easter is early this year, and therefore the weather won%26#39;t be as warm, then it probably won%26#39;t be as busy as an Easter week in say, mid-April.
Of the places you list, I would suspect Williamsburg would be the busiest. Charlottesville is a lovely area and a great launching point to get to see some really great history.
Is mid-March busy in VA?
Well, in Charlottesville the Festival of the Book and the 10 Miler is during the week after. Michael buble is there March 19; the Rutgers-UVA Softball Tournament the 22nd and the same day nearby is the Bel Monte Endurance Run. But it seems spring breaks are schedule earllier in March and in April, although some schools have what they call a %26#39;teachers%26#39; day%26#39; on the Friday before Easter.
I have encountered lots of history loving kids bringing their families...and families bringing their kids...to enjoy the history of several spots in Central Virginia during their own Easter Week break. But as j said, Easter%26#39;s usually later...but only by a couple of weeks so I don%26#39;t know how busy it%26#39;ll be. Not as busy as graduation weeks, that%26#39;s for sure!
And moving out toward Williamsburg....Busch Gardens opens March 21 for the 2008 season. We used to love Easter at the Williamsburg Inn. It was always busy and beautifully decorated and meals wonderfully served. Wonder how it is now?
Don%26#39;t think anything will really hold you up too much in your trip.
The busy time at some nicer hotels might be the Friday, Saturday and Sunday if there are festivities. Easter Sunday meals should probably be preplanned.
