can anyone suggest an itinerary?

Hi,

I%26#39;ve never been to Williamsburg before and am going with my husband for Presidents%26#39; Day weekend (mid-feb.) It%26#39;s a bit overwhelming reading all the reviews and info about what to do. We will be there for 3 days - anyone have a great itinerary they could send along? I know Busch Gardens is closed this time of year, so we should have plenty of time for other things.

Thanks for the help!

can anyone suggest an itinerary?

of course your interests will drive what personal choices you make.

In general the 3 biggies are CW, Jamestown island (2 parts and the loop drive) and yorktown. 3 days or 3 weeks can be devoted.

Not knowing your exact tatstes to start 1.5 days in CW, .5 in yorktown and 3/4-1 for jamestown. will you do the museuems? battlefields?

start with www.history.org (know that the official CW website has numerous web addresses - most people I know think ';history'; is the easiest to remeber, if you prefer use one of the others - they all go to the same place!!)

can anyone suggest an itinerary?

Thanks! We%26#39;re pretty much up for anything. Are there certain museums or battlefields that you recommend? I want to make sure we see all the ';must-sees'; while we are there. Same goes for restaurants - if you have any top picks, please email.

So what should we plan to do in those 3 places you mentioned (CW, jamestown, york.)?

Thanks again.

For a first-timer in CW, I think there are several sites that are ';must sees';. Take in the Palace, the Capitol, one of the taverns (the Wetherburn or the Raleigh), the Peyton Randolph House, the George Wythe House (when we were there in October, it was open only in the morning), the milliner, the wig maker, and then any of the other sites that you think you might enjoy. If you visit the CW website, you can take a virtual tour of the town. If you go to historic Jamestowne, ask if the Chicken Lady will be there that day. She is a great interpreter. Have a great time.

Thank you, everyone, for all your suggestions.

Please let me know if anyone else has any other ideas - we%26#39;ll be there night of friday, Feb. 15 through mon., the 18th.

thanks again,

mpatterson

I definately agree with ZeeW. I love both Jamestownes. Jamestown Settlement has a cafe/cafeteria style eating place and a great gift shoppe. Historic Jamestowne Island has a new museum called the Archearium which showcases thousands of items from the Jamestown Rediscovery Project that started in 1994. Don%26#39;t know if they have ranger tours in the winter. The Glasshouse is located in between the two Jamestown. That is very interesting also. I do love CW, wish you were going to be there longer. It really takes at least a good three days or more if you have the time, to really see CW.

My daughter and her family are moving to columbus in the spring, m, actually, they are moving to Hilliard, do you know of it?

Have a great time in Williamsburg!!! from mary

Thanks, macrac, for all the Jamestowne info.

I sure do know of Hilliard - I actually just moved to the DC area, but when I was in Columbus lived in Gahanna (eastern suburb of city; hilliard is on the western side). if she has any questions let me know - i%26#39;d be happy to help out if i can.

Hey, thanks M. I bet you are getting excited about your trip. Please let us know how it turned out.

Have you been to Mount Vernon yet?? That%26#39;s a great place to spend a day. Lucky you, living among all the wonderful historic places.

Hope you have great weather. from mary

Thanks everyone, my boyfriend and I are going to CW and staying at the Williamsburg in for President%26#39;s Day Weekend also. These posts are great.
