Where to go for SNOW

I%26#39;m planning a trip for the first weekend in February for just the weekend. I live in NC and I miss the snow. My fiancee and I are planning to drive up for the weekend. We don%26#39;t want to ski. Just enjoy the snow covered area. Where should we go to see peaceful beautiful snowfall without getting involved in the ski crowds?

Where to go for SNOW

There isn%26#39;t any in northern VA right now aside from the dirty stuff leftover by the plows, and none in the forecast. You may find some in the mountains, but honestly you may need to go further north like PA or NY if you want to find snow that isn%26#39;t at a ski resort.

Where to go for SNOW

I agree with jwhiteree. When I saw the title of your post, my first answer was ';Not Virginia.'; You might try West ';By God'; Virginia or Pennsylvania.

See what you can find in the Canaan Valley area of West Virginia. There is a fair amount to do in that area if you are into the outdoors. It is the highest valley east of the Mississippi River, so they are pretty sure to have snow on the ground-in fact, there is a web cam for the Dolly Sods wilderness here:

and guess what...there is snow there right now!

Weather.com has a map that shows current snow conditions (in inches), to see it go to www.weather.com/maps/activity/ski

Even though you do not want to ski, you can use this as a planning tool to identify the areas closest to you (in NC), then do a bit more research to determine actual conditions and forecasts based on your travel dates. Good luck.
