Dining Recommendations

Okay...I recently made a point of eating out at a few places, and here are my recommendations.

1) Fat Canary: yup, the food is still excellent. And yes, a bit pricey, but still a really nice place for a special splurge in Williamsburg. But go for the FOOD - it%26#39;s certainly not a quiet, romantic place - very lively. Also, remember that if you downstairs to the wine shop ahead of time, they will serve your selection for $10 plus the cost of the wine. Went there for my husband%26#39;s birthday and had a really outstanding meal.

2) Alize Bistro - the food was actually quite good - the Fried calamari appetizer was really outstanding. A little on the pricey side, but a nice menu, and I didn%26#39;t have any problem with the service at all.

3) A GREAT take-out place is the newly opened Spitfire Rotisserie on Ironbound Rd, just down the road from New Towne. They have barbeque ribs and chicken, as well as some really great pasta salads. The ribs were GREAT (although no sauce, so I%26#39;d pick some up somewhere if you%26#39;re a sauce lover like me!), and the salads were not the tired, tasteless ones that you find so often.

4) Emerald Thai near the entrance to Busch Gardens. Still outstanding Thai food in Williamsburg! If you go between 4 and 6 pm, ask about the Early Bird special - which means you get soup or salad and dessert included in the price of the entree!

Hope someone finds this useful---enjoy!

Dining Recommendations

Thank you so much for this post.

We always go to Fat Canary every time we are in Williamsburg. But, now, you have given us 3 new places to try on our next visit.

I like the fact they each offer different cuisine.

This info is very helpful.

If you find more new places, please consider sharing those experiences also.

Dining Recommendations

I concur on 1 %26amp; 4 - we discuss them here all the time, unfortuntely we don%26#39;t have many great dining options. Although 4 is to us OK - not great like FC.

Don%26#39;t foget LeYaca, much more romantic than FC and food as good or better. And the trellis is back on the list as a good chocie - and Whitehall.

Mr. Lui%26#39;s closed until 3/1 for remodeling (sorely needed!!!) It is good Chinese. Peking a chinese buffet which is awful, so Mr. L%26#39;s reopening needed.

We won%26#39;t eat at 2 - unethical owner%26#39;s, I%26#39;m sure you know from the papers.

3 is fine - if you%26#39;re not near fresh market this is an option, priced OK, nice owner.

in case someone uses it to search New Town does not have an ';e'; on the end - probably won%26#39;t make a difference, just in case

also for Q Hog Wild Smokehouse about 10-15 min from CW has great homemade soups beside the Q, veggies and cornbread

Bridge - I was under the impression that Alize was under totally different ownership.

Oops! Correction to my original post about Emerald Thai - they%26#39;re Early Bird Special is 5-7 pm, and it includes coffe or tea as well!

I also thought that Alize was under new ownership - i.e. not the same, original owners of A. Carroll%26#39;s...

I%26#39;m not sure if I%26#39;m posting this in the proper place or not, as I%26#39;ve never done this. I have a question... My husband, 2 kids (ages 15 and 11) and I will be in Williamsburg Easter morning, and I%26#39;d like to go to a nice restaurant for a ';special'; breakfast. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Many thanks.

To ginac,

You may get some answers to your question by asking on this existing thread but you may want to click on ';post a new topic'; and ask the same question. That way you will have your own thread and can name your posting something like ';Looking for Easter restaurant recommendations';; it will be readily known to everyone what information you need. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get ideas from those knowledgable about W%26#39;burg. Good luck.

Sunday brunch at either the Williamsburg Inn or at the Lodge is sure to be memorable.

Wanted to add that I just went to Buon Amici for dinner for Restaurant week and I%26#39;m really very sorry to say that I was very disappointed. I%26#39;ve eaten in the cafe area, which has calzones, strombolis, pizzas, etc. and thought it was quite good. In the dining room, unfortunately, the food was quite uninspired and completely lacking flavor in flavr. I suppose the argument could be made that it was Restaurant week and they were busy, but it whatever the reason, the food was NOT good and I could NOT recommend it. In addition, our waiter was really pretty unhelpful and dour. Sorry...wanted to like the place (it%26#39;s close to home!), but would not go there again....
