My family and I ae planning to visit CW and surrendings sites on March 22nd thru 29th. We are planning to stay at the the Comfort Inn Historic Area. Reviews were good and the price is in our range. I just wanted some feedback on this hotel if anyone had info on it. Also we are torn between to rent a car or not. It seems necessary to me seeing that we will be touring of the sites in and around Cw. any suggestions would be greatly appareciated.

how are you arriving in Williamsburg? Are you flying, and if so, which airport? Train? Bus?
I%26#39;m a believer in having a car - we do have some public transpo options and shuttle does travel between CW, jamestown and Yorktown, just not convenient enough for me or most visitos. i do know someone last summer was staying at the Hampton inn and planning on using the bus system (known as WAT+Williamsburg Area Transit) I thought that was tough - especially with teenagers, if i remeber correctly she did not drive. Maybe she posted after her trip on how this worked for her - not sure of her name, maybe do a search with terms such as ';hampton inn'; will get you to her posts last summer.
I can%26#39;t comment on the comfort inn - it%26#39;s older, kind of in a OK area, hopefully someone who has been a recent guest will be able to help.

Thanks so much for your reply. We are planning to take a amtrak to Charottesville and then renting a car and driving to Williamsburg. I have read many of the forums on here and from what they were saying they were in agrreance with you about having a car. Originally we were going to take the train to D.C. but i noticed that Charottlesvie is a little closer. Also do you know anything about the Comfort Inn Historic is it close to Colonial Williamsburg and other businesses.
I%26#39;d like to say you won%26#39;t need a car, but you probably will need one. I don%26#39;t have knowledge about the Comfort Inn but checked the web site which indicated 1/2 mi from CW Visitors Cntr..I think it%26#39;s at least that. I am not aware of a shuttle in W%26#39;burg between historic area and hotels but the local expert can speak to that. If you plan to visit Jamestown (2 nearby sites), Busch Gardens, or Yorktown, you will need a car. If your family has any special interests, hiking, museums, etc. post that and we%26#39;ll give you info for your visit. Enjoy your trip to the area.
Thanks for your reply. I think i have decided it would be best to rent a car. Mainly my family and I will be doing the historic tours (Jamestown,Yorktown and of course Cw). We are also planning on Bush Gardens. We are huge history buffs and from everything I have read this is a great place to visit to satisfy our thirst for history. Is it a easy drive from charottlesville or would someone suggest it better to come in form Washington.
As a tourist who has driven to CW from both DC and Charlottesville, I much prefer the drive from Charlottesville. There will still be traffic but not as much as you would encounter coming in from DC. Are you planning to visit Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, and Montpelier if you come from Charlottesville? All three can be toured in one day. Since your family likes history, these would be a great addition to your visit.
Unless your plans include DC, I would go to Charlottesville. DC has a lot to offer but is expensive and a traffic nightmare. By the way, if you have time, in Newport News (only 30 min from your hotel) is the Mariners%26#39; Museum. They has an wonderful exhibit on the USS Monitor (plus the rest of Mariners is great). Check it out on www.mariner.org
Enjoy your history tour.
Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I think I will come into CHarottlesville. Sounds like much less of a headache than coming in from D.C. Hopefully we will have time to enjoy the sites in Charottlesville. Also can anyone tell me if they think the 7-4-1 flex tickets are worth it. Especially since we will be seeing all the history sites and Busch Gardens. Is this the best way to go.
Amtrak comes in to Williamsburg, too; you might want to look at that option if you haven%26#39;t already ruled it out.
At the time of year you%26#39;re coming, the 7-4-1 will not be available. It includes Water Country, which won%26#39;t be open then. The 6-4-1 would be the one you want. Busch Gardens will be open at 10 a.m. each day of the week you%26#39;ll be here.
You could do without a car, but it would mean relying on taxis, public transport, and shuttles. There is a shuttle that goes from CW to Jamestown and Yorktown. I%26#39;ve talked to people who are used to public transport and taxis who didn%26#39;t have a car for their visit, and they were fine with it. Having a car is just so much more convenient in my opinion.
Thanks Zoe for the reply. I found out today that they no longer do the 6-4-1. So I have decided to get the America%26#39;s Historic Trianagle ticket and then purchase the Muti- Day tickets for Busch Gardens. I chose Charottlesville for a couple of reasons. It 3 hours less on the train (and with an 11 year old that should be plenty.} But also it is a little cheaper than gong in to D.C..
