Are there restaurants in CW for a traditional high tea? I have noticed that the Williamsburg Inn has tea. Can anyone tell me about it? Times? Price? Reservations needed?
Thank you.
High tea in Colonial Williamsburg?
check with the inn to see when serving - and ask about special events. We heard the pastry chef from the white house - something like the day after he retired - GREAT presentaton.
yes, ressies needed, fills quickly in high season
The High Tea is nice, if they have a special guest it%26#39;s spectacular. if you have young girls in your group and they get dressed up it%26#39;s quite nice to see.
actually when they have a special guest it%26#39;s not always high tea - so ask about guest speakers in general. i%26#39;ll try to remember to post if anything interesting pops up - of course check the CW website, it will always be listed
High tea in Colonial Williamsburg?
The Inn has traditional afternoon tea in the Terrace Room. The menu is here: history.org/visit/…Inntea.pdf and the cost is $23. Yes, you%26#39;ll need reservations.
I think afternoon tea is what you want, rather than high tea. Although the two terms are often used interchangably, they not the same. In the mid-1800%26#39;s, having Afternoon Tea became the %26#39;in-thing%26#39; for the upper-class women of England. Along with tea, there would be small pastries with clotted cream or preserves, delicate sandwiches, and scones. High Tea is a much different thing. It was served later (around six in the evening) and consisted of a full, dinner meal for the common people, served at a dining (high) table, hence the term, ';high tea.';
There are other places that serve an afternoon tea; Taste in the Shops at Kingsmill is one that I can recommend.
The atmosphere at the Inn will be nice but the food offered with the tea is much better at Taste. What you should choose will depend on what you are looking for. There are some very nice shops to wander through in the shopping complex where Taste is located.
