We are going to be in Williamsburg this summer for a wedding (2 adults - no kids). We were planning on arriving early afternoon on Friday. We%26#39;d have the rest of that day and part of Saturday and Sunday mornings to explore Colonial Williamsburg. Will this be enough? We don%26#39;t have a lot of patience for museums, maybe just some highlights and lots of outdoor walking. Hopefully, this is enough time.
We were also thinking of going someplace else for a few days. We like nature/birdwatching and beaches and had been thinking of Chincoteague but wondering if there is something else, perhaps a bit closer that would be good as well.
Depending on airfare prices, we%26#39;d be flying in and out of either Norfolk or DC - perhaps into one and out of the other.
Any ideas?
Williamsburg and someplace else - need advice
Yes, you can see quite a bit of Williamsburg in that amount of time. The Governor%26#39;s Palace and a few of the old shops along Gloucester should give you a good feel for colonial life.
I think Chincoteague is a good choice even though it%26#39;s a drive. VB does have a state park on the beach - camp or rent a cabin. You can do bird-watching and beach-walking in Virginia Beach, but it%26#39;s just not the same and doesn%26#39;t compare to the wildlife refuge in Chincoteague. I mean really - how many seagulls and pipers can you admire in VB? In Chincoteague, you%26#39;ll see so many more varieties, and not just birds - you%26#39;ll have the deer and ponies too.
It%26#39;ll be a 2 hr drive back to Norfolk and 3.5 hrs to Baltimore or DC.
Williamsburg and someplace else - need advice
You might want to see if you can fly into Newport News (Patrick Henry airport) it would be very convenient %26amp; thru Air Tran a good price. Also Richmond (Ric) has air tran service. You might like to spend time at the Outer Banks in NC for nature/beaches.
When we visited Williamsburg, we also enjoyed going to Newport News (we love nautical places) and the historic area of Yorktown.
I was also looking at possibly one night in Cape Charles. Any thoughts on this?
Now there%26#39;s a thought - would certainly cut down on the drive. I%26#39;ve never stopped to visit in Cape Charles, but from what I%26#39;ve been reading, that town is going through a bit of a renaissance. B%26amp;Bs and fancy schmancy restaurants popping up everywhere. If you go there, I hope you%26#39;ll post a review to let us know how it is.
