We want to eat where the locals eat...

Hello!

We will be visiting the triangle in late May, and want to eat where the locals eat! Any family style restaurants would be great for us...

How about a supermarket where we could purchase foods for our road-side picnics?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. We cant wait to come visit your wonderful area this May!

Thanks again....

unfortunately our dining options are limited - compared to big cities.

we do have quality over quantity in some respescts and if you%26#39;ve read past posts on restaurants you will hit on the biggies. whenever we travel we like to frequent locals places also - here the locals/tourists options crossover greatly - we are small, geographically and population, which is a great part of our popularity.

In our opinion the best upscale is LeYaca, followed by fat canary (good food, OK dining room) trellis (world famous - has come back to its previous glory)

My favorite locals Q is Hog Wild, 15 min or so from CW - nice owners, great Q and homemade soups.

Most groceries have prepared foods - farm fesh, ukrops and fresh market. i would not drive past one to the other - a rotis chicken is basic in most. a new rotis place has opened - spitfire - i liked it OK forst try, but fresh market and farm fresh cost less for same meats. go to whatever is convenient.

charlie%26#39;s at the williamsburg airport nice for sandwiches and pie, cheese shop (same family owned as fat canary 0 they are physically connected) also for sandwiches and salads and cheese to go.

we are full of chains which i personally hate although i do accept they are a necessary evil.

for italian try doraldo%26#39;s, chinese mr lui%26#39;s, and friday or saturday nighjts at kningsmill marina for burgers and a casual atmosphere with a nice one-man singer a la jimmy buffet

Thanks for all the info! You have been a big help and we truly appreciate it. We are looking foreward to a great vacation!

In addition to the places already mentioned, I%26#39;d add the Backfin (seafood freshly and simply prepared), Jamestown Pie Company (pizza and especially the pot pies), Aberdeen Barn (great beef, professional wait staff), and Red Hot and Blue for Memphis style barbeque.

I remember you%26#39;d hoped to come here last year. Did you come, and what places did you like if you did?

My family likes: Casa Maya, Sals by Victor, Emerald, Giuseppes, Maurizios.

I would also recommend Pierce%26#39;s BBQ joint, good stuff, great onion rings.

If you are in Yorktown, go to the Yorktown Pub at Yorktown Beach on the River.

Casa Maya looks like a Denny%26#39;s because the building it is in used to be a Denny%26#39;s. I agree, I like both it and the La Tolteca that is on Second Street.

my wife and i second (big time) sal%26#39;s. it%26#39;s great italian food. and then for dessert, head on over to sno-to-go on richmond highway, across the street from the yankee candle store. totally a local spot in the summer time. it%26#39;s really fine shaved ice with ice cream in the middle. and they have over 40 flavors. everything from cheesecake to strawberry shortcake to mocha.

Hi Zoey! We did plan on visiting last May- but I broke my foot and had to cancel! Boo- hoo...But now we have rescheduled our trip for this year, and will be visiting mid May, and can%26#39;t wait! Thanks for all the info on local restaurants. We also plan on visiting the plantations, and look foreward to touring their buildings and grounds. We will fill you in on our vacation when we return home. Thanks again for all your info, and everyone else who has given us lots of choices for wonderful restaurants to eat at!!!
