Planning a trip..need tips,advice and info!!

I%26#39;m planning a trip to Williamsburg VA for the end of April or the beginning of May and need advice or any other helpful info you can provide.

It will be my hubby and i ,along with our 4 kids ages 14,12,10 and 2.

So we need to find activities that would be family friendly and also with consideration for a 2 yr old.

We of course don%26#39;t want to spend too much but want to enjoy the highlights of the area.

We are just going for a night, we do live in Woodbridge Va so we want to leave Sat. morning and spend 1 night there and come back home on the Sun,in the evening.

So anyone been there ,done that ???

Please post recommendations ,tips, advice, things to do,must see, must do...you know just about everything you can think of including things to avoid or to watch out for.

Thanks alot for any info you can post!!

Hi Becbac, Are you just spending one day there or a week? If just one day, wow, you will have to really plan carefully because there is so much to do in that area. Let us know, I%26#39;m hoping I misunderstood your post and that you will be staying for a week.It%26#39;s really a wonderful place.

Just one day...we are planning to drive there very early Sat morning and leave the next day in the evening.

You will have most of Sat and Sun (since your drive time is short) and because you live close, you can return easily if there is more you want to see and do. As mentioned in previous posts, if you want to keep expenses low, you can visit CW without tickets, walk the grounds, see the bldgs, and experience the historic areas BUT you can%26#39;t go into the bldgs, ie, Governors Palace or the craftsmen bldgs (still you get to see alot). Check some of the prior forum posts for things to do, there are several very knowledgable contributors to this forum and they can help you out. Good luck.

How lucky you are, living in a place so close to so many great areas. We have been to the Williamsburg area 4 times, each trip between 1 and 3 days.

Start with Colonial Williamsburg. Spend the money to get in and get yourselves involved in the day. Buy a couple of tricorner hats, old wooden toys, and brass candlesticks. It will provide a foundation for other trips in the future.

Wander the main colonial shopping, dining area in the evening if the weather is nice.

I%26#39;d follow up with Busch Gardens the next morning. Rides, entertainment, and a European atmosphere for all.

Everyone will have a full day and sleep on the way home.

If you were coming later in the season, the water park would be great.

Save Jamestown, Yorktown, Norfolk Naval Station, plantations and estates, Virginia Beach and outlet shopping for other trips.

Enjoy, we certainly have.
