need help with richmond restaurant recommendations

Would be very grateful for restaurant recommendations focused for foodies...Recently, enjoyed Acacia Restaurant, Six Burner, Kuba Kuba! My husband and I live in the DC/Metro area and willing to drive for new dining experiences in Richmond! Recently enjoyed exploring the Fan and Carytown areas.

Acacia is a favorite. A new French Restaurant is 1 North Belmont. It is on the corner of Belmont and Ellwood, very close to Carytown. Very small place with excellent service, great food and a nice wine list (website 1northbelmont.com)

If you like fine dinning The Jefferson has Lamaire (5 Diamond). A nice Italian place close to Acacia is Amici%26#39;s. Helens is another great fan place on the corrner of Robinson and Main. A newer fan favorite is 3 Monkeys. They have outside dinning with a very relaxed atmosphere. Next door to Helens. If you have a specific taste let me know.

lovinSobe: Thanks so much!! What ethnic restaurants would you recommend? We really loved Kuba Kuba. Grapeleaf was just o.k.--nothing special. How is Jamaica House? Also any other unique creative restaurants along the lines of Acacia? Thanks again!

I have never heard anything about Jamaica house. Stellas is a Greek restaurant in the same family as Kuba Kuba. A little more expensive. If you like Acacia you will like MaMa Zu%26#39;s. It has a black board menu everything is very fresh. I have had everything from Rockfish (favorite) soft shelled crabs and Osso buco and rare tuna. Everything is excellent. Warning this restaurant looks like a dump and is in a up an coming neighborhood. The staff is usually very rude, the place looks rough and they do not take reservations. Long waits on Friday and Saturday. VEry worth it. It%26#39;s Italian. For more of an Acacia flavor Millies is the place. It%26#39;s towards Church Hill and is in a building that looks very run down. The food is excellent. Another black board menu place. I have never had anything bad here. If you like Acacia I would try Millies next. If you want really good Italian go to MaMa Zu%26#39;s don%26#39;t be scared of either place they are land marks for Richmond Dinners

lovinSobe: Thanks again!! We will try Millies and Mama Zu%26#39;s next!! We are looking forward to our next visit to Richmond. Wondering how expensive it would be relocate.

Compared to DC Richmond is cheap:). Living in the Fan can be expensive but there are some real jewels to be found in the FAN area. If you want to fix up a house built in the 20%26#39;s. Hope you enjoy. I good website is www.styleweekly.com. Local Mag. that comes out on Tuesday. Usually has some good food reveiws and a directory of all the resturants in Richmond.

I love Millie%26#39;s and Mama Zu%26#39;s.

You can also try Edo%26#39;s Squid, owned by the same folks as Mama Zu%26#39;s. Still some of the same attitude, but I think they do take reservations. It%26#39;s near VCU, above a sub shop on Harrison. If you%26#39;re looking for ethnic, try Full Kee in the west end. Great dim sum and other non-americanized chinese food. Stella%26#39;s has unfortunately closed, but the new place (Rowlands I think) looks promising. I also highly reccomend Limani in Carytown. All wood-grilled fish, and outstanding. Also in Carytown is Indochine, French-Vietnamese. For a smallish town, Richmond has a LOT of great restaurants!

Almost forgot two other good ones...Can Can in Carytown, a french bistro that%26#39;s large and lively, excellent food and desserts. And Akida in the fan, a small sushi place, also outstanding.

There are other ethnic places (Ethiopian, lots of Thai, Indian, etc) but since you live in DC, you probably have better access to those already.

Ok, I%26#39;m on a roll...Julep%26#39;s in Shockoe Bottom, ';new'; southern food...Croaker%26#39;s Spot in Jackson Ward, ';new'; soul food, try the fried fish. Comfort on Broad St. has great souther food and the sides are fantastic. Can Can in Carytown, a french bistro that%26#39;s large and lively, excellent food and desserts. Dogwood in the fan, from the same folks that own Acacia. And Akida in the fan, a small sushi place, also outstanding.

I highly recommend Manila Manila! for some good Filipino food. My husband is Filipino and he likes to go to their buffet every Sunday after church. They have a good variety of authentic food, not just adobo and lumpia. We used to live in Virginia Beach and the Filipino joints down there never offered the variety that we can get at this restaurant. Although the interior is a tad cheesy (no curtains, lattice in the windows, fake flowers), the food makes up for it.

The Sunday buffet is the best deal since you get a wide variety of dishes and one low price (I think $14 per person??). When we go on other nights, my husband has to have a ';little bit of everything'; so we end up ordering 4-5 entrees and it%26#39;s just too expensive (and too much food). On that note, you might want to research this cuisine or have them talk you through the buffet since there aren%26#39;t any descriptive cards. As much as I love Filipino food, you won%26#39;t catch me eating the dinuguan at puto (';deeno-go-an'; rice cakes in blood stew) but I love the kare kare, lumpia sariwa, and the shrimp/squash/coconut milk dish. Yum!

It is located in a shopping center at 9047 West Broad Street.
