Hilton Mark Center vs Courtyard Alexandria Pentagon South

My son will be attending a Leadership Forum 4/08 He is staying at the Hilton. We are only allowed a few breakfast meetings w him during the week. We are flying into Dulles and have a room reserved @ the Hilton and are not planning on renting a vehicle. I ? if it is worth the extra $ to stay @ the Hilton or stay @ the Courtyard and take a taxi over when we can meet him for breakfast(around 7am). I also ? which one is better for us since we will have to depend on public transportation to get around. This will be our first time to the area and I want to get all the info I can to make the best decision. Thanks

You could actually walk from the Courtyard to the Hilton, although, there is alot of traffic on the multi-laned roads so use caution. Otherwise, it would be about a 2 minute taxi ride. Neither is close to public transportation, except maybe a bus. I can%26#39;t say anything specifically about the hotel itself, but if the Courtyard offers a substantial savings and provides a shuttle to a metro station, I would definitely go with that.

Thanks for the info this helps. According to the maps I can view it looks like the Marriott is across an Interstate and several rodes down from the Hilton. Also are there any other hotels within a closer walking distance to the Hilton? or any restaurants within walking distance? The Hilton offers a shuttle to the Pentagon City area which I was told we can get on a Metro line there-can you verify this and give any extra advise to us first time travelers to the city? Thanks again for your help

I don%26#39;t believe there%26#39;s anything closer to the Hilton. Maybe the Courtyard shuttle will take you there as well as to the metro. You may want to check on that. If you walk, you will need to walk over the interstate, but if I recall, there is a sidewalk on the overpass. I really wouldn%26#39;t recommend it, though. It%26#39;s a very busy street with limited visibility.

Last I was in the area (when the Courtyard was still a Sheraton), there were a couple of chain restaurants by the hotel, like a Quizno%26#39;s and a pizza place. For something a bit nicer, but still casual, there%26#39;s a Clyde%26#39;s near the Hilton that has decent American fare.

Taking the metro from Pentagon is a quick ride into the city. Most reports from first time users have said that the people working at metro are very friendly and will help you purchase farecards, etc. Just try not to go during rush hour for your first time because it can be very busy and there will be lots of impatient commuters.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay.
