Approximate time for each attraction

Hi -

My family (myself, husband, 10 yr old son and 6 yr old daughter) will be visiting Williamsburg next week. I%26#39;d like to make an itinerary so we have some sort of schedule to follow (just as a day by day guide - not to the minute!). The only thing I%26#39;m having a hard time figuring out is how much time to leave for the attractions. We%26#39;ll come in Monday afternoon and leave Friday afternoon/evening. The things we%26#39;d like to do are:

Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown/Yorktown, Busch Gardens (we%26#39;re planning on at least one day here - do we need more?), The Living Museum, then possibly Ripley%26#39;s Believe it or not and the President%26#39;s Park. I%26#39;d also like to schedule a Ghost tour (too spooky for my six yr old?)

It seems like a lot for five days - so I want to get the most out of our days and plan accordingly. If anyone can help - I%26#39;d truly appreciate it!!

Thanks! :)

Approximate time for each attraction

first, note that jamestown and yorktown are 2 completely separate locations - the way you have it typed means ';and/or';, if you can only do the ';OR'; I%26#39;d choose Jamestown - although you might get them both in.

I see you have 4 1/2 days at most, correct?

The time for each will depend on your families priorties - Busch Gardens usually a bigger draw for kids than age than CW - your may prefer CW, do you know?

In general you might do jamestown Monday afternoon if you arrive early enough - or a ghost tour Monday night (I think most 6yo are fine - you know yours, if she is skittish or not?) or allow Monday afternoon as 1/2 day in CW - both work

I%26#39;d skip both president%26#39;s park and ripley%26#39;s - you may like them, both not worth your precious little time.

BG - 1-2 days - open any nights? check the schedule

CW 1-2 days

jamestown island 1/2 day - 3/4 day

yorktown 3-4 hours

Va Living Museum (in newport News) I LOVE this place!! 1/2 day - would combine with yorktown as far direction - maybe lunch at the waterfront that day

so maybe like this, a general guide, tweak to suit your needs, and look at weather before deciding on BG. Tu-Th interchangeable

Monday afternoon CW %26amp; ghost tour

Tuesday BG

Wednesday CW

Thursday yorktown and Va Living Museum

Friday Jamestown Island

Approximate time for each attraction

I didn%26#39;t think BG was open except on weekends so this would be something to check. We%26#39;ll be there in 2 weeks and I had to work my plans around the days they are open. My girls are teenagers so I know they will want as much time there as possible.

looks like BG closes at 8 during the week - not great, does you give you a little more flexibility. Might be too much the day you arrive, if not Monday likely to be less busy - again, depending on weather.

Thank you SO MUCH bridgefan 1!! That was exactly the breakdown I needed! :) Your itinerary looks great. I did realize that Yorktowm and Jamestown are two seperate attractions - I thought they were closer together in location, so thanks for that tip. I checked the map and saw they are actually in different directions. Any recommendations for lunch on the waterfront? I do wish BG was open later, but my 6yr old will be done by 8pm anyway! So, I%26#39;m thinking of purchasing the 7-4-1 flex ticket, which according to this schedule would suit us well, this way if we can be totally flexible on our days and go back to something we like if we wish. Plus, I think we%26#39;ll finish up at Jamestown and maybe have time to re-visit BG before we head back to NJ - if weather allows!

Thanks again, this was so helpful and I%26#39;m really looking forward to our little getaway. :)

Hi Sugar, You know that there is Jamestowne Settlement and also Jamestowne Historic Island? JS has a big, new exhibit hall and outside, they have replicas of an American Native Village, replicas of the 3 ships, which you can board at least one of them, and the reproduction of the first Jamestowne City.

JHI has the new ';archearium'; that houses thousands of artifacts from the Jamestown Rediscovery Project that started in 1994. This is the ORIGINAL site of the very first settlement. There are ongoing digs, original church tower, statues of Pocahontas and John Smith. It is a wonderfully marvelous place, but your kids ages suggests to me that they would like the Settlement best. Just my opinion and wanted to make sure you knew about the 2 places. Have a wonderful trip. It%26#39;s lovely there.

Thank you macrac, I didn%26#39;t realize Jamestown had two different places! Are they both on the island, or is the settlement elsewhere? Both the island and settlement sound very cool and I%26#39;m sure the kids can do both, they%26#39;re used to museums of all sorts! Thanks for yet another tip!! Everyone has been so wonderfula nd helpful I am really getting excited for this trip! Thanks again! :)

Another thank you for the information, planning a last minute trip and just soaking it all in.

If you drive out on the Colonial Parkway, turn right (you%26#39;ll see the signs) to go to Jamestown Settlement. It%26#39;s not far at all. Stay on Colonial Parkway straight to go to Historic Jamestowne and the Glass House (glass making as it was done in the 17th century).

I%26#39;m so excited for you both, sugar and seymour. I really love it out there and hope you will, too. Let us know how your trip turned out.

Yep, sugar, I%26#39;m sure you can do both Jamestownes and they both are unique and differant experiances. Both so very interesting.

You are the best! Many thanks!!

I read on another topic that I could buy the 7-4-1 ticket right in Williamsburg at the visitor%26#39;s center - which is where we will be starting our journey anyway. Is there a benefit to ordering them online? The 7-4-1 definitely seems like the way for us to go because we are planning on seeing all the attractions and I like the flexibility.

Zoey - did you have a chance to read bridgefan%26#39;s itinerary above? What do you think? I thought it sounded great, I would love to get your feedback as well since you are so knowledgeable with CW!! Thanks again! :)
