Hi, I%26#39;m planning our first trip to Williamsburg in April with kids ages 6 and 8. My husband was born there but hasn%26#39;t been back in ages. We want to stay close to Col Williamsburg at a hotel with an indoor pool -- how would you compare Williamsburg Lodge (closer to sites but more expensive) vs. Kingsmill.
Both seem to get good reviews in the forums. This will be on a Sunday + Monday so busch gardens won%26#39;t be open.
thanks so much,
Margaret
Help choosing lodging: Kingsmill vs Wmsburg Lodge with kids
If you%26#39;re just going to be there a night or two, I%26#39;d go with the Lodge. Have you considered the Woodlands? It%26#39;s also a CW property, the rate will be a bit lower, and you%26#39;re right next to the Visitors Center and the shuttle. If you stay at the Lodge, you can pretty much walk everywhere, though.

Kingsmill has more for the kids - and if your lodging chocie will focus on wanting to be in a resort atmosphere Kingsmill is it.
if, on the other hand, your lodging is second to touring CW I%26#39;d consider the Lodge since it is walking distance.
I will say CW for 6 and 8 yr olds can be quite long and boring - or not, depending on your kids. Do they want to see all the buildings, have the patience for museums-like experiences, or do you want to swim, play games, etc.
Both properties are nice and will suit you - just depends on the focus of your trip. 2 days is short, so really I don;t think you can wrong with either.
Thanks so much for your replies -- we%26#39;re stretching the trip out to 3 or 4 days so we won%26#39;t be so rushed. Want to see Jamestown and Yorktown.
Kids are excited to learn more Colonial history-- we go to see the Boston -Lexington and Concord sites frequently, so they%26#39;re up to the challenge.
My husband was actually born and raised in Shields Tavern -- it was a private residence in the 50s when his dad worked at Colonial Williamsburg -- so it will be great to revisit his boyhood home. Thanks again for this wonderful forum.
The Woodlands is a good bet for the kids- it has resort-like amenities (mini-golf, big pool- in April it can get hot enough to want the outdoor pool!), and large, suite-style rooms.
Also, like others mentioned, the visitor%26#39;s center is on CW grounds- so that is VERY easily accessed. The location of the Woodlands is excellent for popping down to other locations, because you are close to main routes and don%26#39;t need to wind around the Colonial area to get places.
