Clarion James Madison in Norfolk-still open?

Just wondering if the Clarion James Madison is still open. It is no longer listed on the Choice Hotels website and to be honest, I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised if it closed. The hotel is 100 years old and gets absolutely terrible reviews on here. I am not interested in staying there, but would like to know whether or not the hotel is still open (if it is, is it operating under a new name?). Any information will be greatly appreciated. FYI-the hotel%26#39;s address is 345 Granby St in Norfolk, VA.

Its still there on Granby, but I believe it may be under new management. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, just to let you know. I was there for a Christmas party--our room was an oven in the middle of the night, I had to literally hang out of the window for relief %26amp; the front desk told me that the heat was boiler controlled, so basically we could either continue to cook or move to another room. A friend had a broken bed in their room. The very window I hung out of was broken. I left the hotel %26amp; went home. There was also a sewage leak under the hotel that day, so the hallways and elevators stunk of raw sewage. There are way better hotels downtown--try the Tazwell, Sheraton or Marriott.

They sold it. They(I am not sure what party) are going to renovate the interior and turn rooms into condo units.

Thanks for the info!

I can see why they sold it.

THIS IS THE WORSE HOTEL WE HAVE EVER STAYED AT. Stayed here with a wedding party because rehearsal dinner was held at this hotel. Rehearsal dinner was great. To sum up a lot of bad experiences. Us-room was good, hotel housekeeping too nosey about time of wedding; van locks were tampered with @ the city garage where we had to park- cost us $150 to fix. Sister-1st room was not what they asked for; too small for 5 people. Put into another room had which problems with the toilet. Maintenance stole wallet %26amp; pearl necklace while we attended the wedding. Clarion told her too bad, nothing they can do. Brother-people above them left water on which leaked through their ceiling and flooded their room at 2:00 am. They wanted to be reimbursed for the room, but were told it wasn%26#39;t their fault that the water was left on. Parents - were put in a room that if you jiggled the doorknob from the hallway you could easily get into the room. Hotel has a lot of charm but electronic locks put on old doors and doorframes which aren%26#39;t very effective if you can let yourself in to somebody%26#39;s room by shaking the doorknob vigorously. Didn%26#39;t seem like a safe area of town. Probably could go out during the day, but at nighttime beware and you should beware in the hotel itself considering the type of people they hire.

It%26#39;s amazing that so many extremely bad things can happen in one place to one family.

It%26#39;s puzzling that someone who just registered today would feel compelled to post such a negative review on a place that is no longer in business.

I%26#39;m surprised the poster thinks the hotel was in an unsafe area because the area is actually very safe.
