I am looking at booking the Americana Hotel for 3 nights in September/October. We%26#39;re in our late 50s and just want something really clean with no cigarette smell, close to the metro and to a large shopping complex. My only real concern is airplane noise from Ronald Reagan airport. Can someone let me know is this hotel is in the flight plan? After spending about 20 hours on the net researching - phew, what a job - and cost being a major factor as we%26#39;re doing a 6 week US trip, will this hotel do us just fine? Thanks in anticipation!
Airport noise? Advice please!Reagan National has a curfew between 10pm and 7am to help cut down on the noise, but your hotel is pretty close to the airport. Maybe you could ask for a room on the opposite of the building from the airport.
I scanned through some of the reviews on Tripadvisor, and didn%26#39;t see any mention of sleep lost due to air traffic, and from that I would tend to think that noise is a non-issue.
Try sending a message to some of the review authors and ask them directly if they noticed any noise. Good luck!
Airport noise? Advice please! The Americana is right down the street from me. I don%26#39;t think you will have too many problems with airplane noise. I do hear occassional noise, but it is during the day when the ';airport turns'; (wind changes direction and the planes in the flight landing line need to land in the different direction). The hotel is parallel to the airport (instead of over the flight path).
Not to mention that DCA has a noise abatement program from 10pm - 7am that limits the kind of aircraft that can land and suggests to pilots (which they follow) other noise abatement procedures. Planes do land up to nearly 1AM, but I do not hear them and they must use the noise abatement procedures.
The Americana is a basic hotel that provides an excellent location for a great price. If you are looking for a hotel that has a great location, moderately priced, ability to walk to lots of restaurants, and a clean basic place -- then you have found a good place. If you are looking for a place with lots of amenities like room service, conceirge, etc then this is not the place for you. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply - I have now booked the Americana. The shuttle will be terrific and it sounds like a basic, clean hotel close to the metro and shopping. I%26#39;m sure we will be quite happy there - your local knowledge of the flight times and paths was very helpful. Regards to you!
