Hello - I am trying to plan a VB vacation this summer with a side trip to DC for a day or two and a day in Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. Does this seem do-able? I guess my question is: does it make sense to rent a room in VB for 3 nites then run up to DC (can this be a day trip or should I get a room there) and then back to VB area to see Williamsburg or Busch Gardens?
It would be my husband and I and two teenage girls. We love the beach and have never been out east and I would like to see some of the major sites in DC.
I%26#39;m guessing we will need to rent a car.
Also, which airport is the best to fly into? We were thinking Norfolk (from MSP). Does this sound right?
Thanks!!
Julie

We%26#39;re doing a variation of this trip in May. We%26#39;re staying in VB (Memorial Day weekend) Friday night thru Monday morning, moving over to Williamsburg on Monday, doing the Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens %26amp; Jamestown/Yorktown Mon-Wed, driving to Washington DC early Thursday morning and spending all day Thursday %26amp; Friday there.
It%26#39;s a lot to do in a week but we%26#39;re gonna give it a shot.

Let me know how it goes! Good Luck!
DC is definitely NOT a day trip from VB. It%26#39;s about a 4-hr drive even if traffic is in your favor. You can certainly do Williamsburg as a day trip from VB, however.
Yes, use the Norfolk airport (ORF). Can you fly into Norfolk and fly out of one of the DC airports? That would save you the back and forth trip, and it would require only one hotel change. Just a thought.
Good idea on the flights. I will check into that.
Thanks!
I was thinking the same thing as mabber%26#39;s itinerary and also what Wendy recommended. It would be good to leave an area and not have to go back and forth since that would take up that much more time in such a short trip. And, yes, even if seeing just a few things in DC, you%26#39;d need a good full day...no up and back.
