Transatlantic flights to UK (Scotland)

Hi, I have a friend from Richmond who is trying to find a reasonably-priced flight from the States to the UK in June (final destination is Edinburgh, Scotland). I%26#39;ve tried the usual airlines - Continental, Delta, United etc - but they are all more expensive than he expected. Does anyone know of any ';budget'; airlines I can try for travelling to the UK?

Thanks

Try looking out of Dulles Airport (IAD). It is about a 2 hour drive from Richmond, but I hear you can get better prices since the airport serves a much larger metropolitan area.

There are also local hotels that offer ';park and fly'; where you can stay there the night before, and then leave your car parked at the hotel for the duration of your trip.

May be worth looking into if a few hundred dollars can be saved.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I%26#39;ve looked at the possibility of flying out of Dulles but it still seems too expensive. I%26#39;ll look at the options of flying out of New York/Newark/Boston and then see if I can find a cheap(ish) connection from Richmond.

Thanks again.

Have you looked into: http://www.norfolkairport.com/

They have some good rates for some locations.

Hi there, I%26#39;ve been planning a trip from Edinburgh to D.C. and I also tried looking at every possible way and although the cheapest rate I found was flying from London to New York it was actaully cheaper to fly from Edinburgh to D.C. directly once you figured in travelling costs from edinburgh to London and NY to DC. You should try looking for flights on www.kayak.com to find flights as they will usually come up with international airlines as well as American ones.

You don%26#39;t say what time of the year you are looking on coming but unfortunately I don%26#39;t think the prices will go down until about mid-October which is actually the best time to come and see Edinburgh. Other then that the cheapest I%26#39;ve ever seen flights is during January and February but that%26#39;s because it%26#39;s pretty miserable out here. Good luck.

It%26#39;s very expensive to fly to/from Richmond although it%26#39;s gotten better since Airtran started flying there a few years ago. Your friend will have to get a connection if flying out of Richmond so like some of the others said, try Reagan National, Dulles or BWI(Baltimore-Washington). If time and budget allow and it%26#39;s cheaper to fly from NY, your friend might want to consider taking the train to NY and flying from there. You could also check the cost of flying from Richmond to Atlanta and then Atlanta to the UK. Good luck in your search.

Hi, thanks for your replies. I%26#39;ve tried all the suggestions and have worked out prices for my friend based on all the various - sometimes convoluted! - ways of getting here. He is currently in Europe and by the summer he%26#39;ll be back home in the States. He has been invited to appear at a sporting event here in Edinburgh in June which is why he%26#39;s looking for the cheapest and/or easiest option available.

Many thanks again for all your suggestions.
