Our family will be visiting Williamsburg for the first time June 15-22. Just wondering about how long it takes to tour buildings like the palace and capitol? We will be arriving in the area around 1pm...(staying at Kingsmill Reort)..Hoping to stop by CW to pick up tickets, see the film at the visitors center and get oriented. Does that sound like a good plan or should we start out there when it opens the next day? Thanks in advance!!

That sounds like a very good plan! If you have time, once you%26#39;ve gotten your tickets, take the short walk to the Great Hopes Plantation site. As you walk across the bridge from the Visitors Center to Great Hopes, you will see plaques embedded which take you back in time from the 21st century to the 18th century.

You may want to check with the concierge at Kingsmill about discounts on CW passes and their shuttle that goes to the historic area. If they do not offer a discount or it is too late for the shuttle when you arrive, you can go to any CW ticket office and purchase tickets and start your CW visit right then. You may arrive in time for Rev City that day. The historic buildings are open until 5:00 p.m., the museums until 7:00 p.m. Since you have not been here before, you may not realize how extensive CW is; you don%26#39;t want to waste a half day of your visit.
When you purchase your tickets, make sure you get a copy of the Visitors Guide for that week. In addition to a map of the historic area, there is a listing of days the buildings and trade sites are open. It also lists various programs available each day. Some have a cost; but, many are included in the price of your ticket. However, you MUST make reservations as space is sometimes limited. You will find a variety of programs that will be of interest to you and your family.
If Dean Shostak offers his Crystal Concert( or any of his other musical programs) I strongly urge you to see them.
Also, if you plan on having dinner at Kings Arms or Cristiana Campbell%26#39;s Taverns, reserve early.
I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy Williamsburg as much as my husband and I do.
THANK YOU everyone...for taking time to respond! This forum is so valuable...as part of my fun is planning!
