You%26#39;ve probably already done this but check the Richmond ';things to do'; section to the left, and see if anything loooks interesting for yours teens. They may like Carytown or Shockhoe Bottom. If they%26#39;re into museums, try Edgar Allen Poe Museum (small, won%26#39;t take much time but interesting) or the Holocaust Museum (interesting, unique format moves you through life in a concentration camp with narrative by a survivor, 1 1/2-2 hrs). If you don%26#39;t find something for them in Richmond, consider stopping along the way home at a place of their choice to break up the drive. Good luck.

You may want to consider the Valentine Museum or the Science Museum.

Welcome to Richmond and enjoy your visit! Here are a few ideas for activities to enjoy and places that you might visit with your teenagers.

If your teens enjoy HISTORY, consider the following:

* Take a drive down Monument Avenue. It%26#39;s our ';gem'; street and includes several monuments to Virginia Civil War legends. The monuments and houses along the street are beautiful. Many of the houses along the best parts of Monument Avenue are row houses built in the early 1900%26#39;s). In addition to the Civil War statues on Monument Avenue, there is a newer statue that is dedicated to tennis-great Arthur Ashe who was born in Richmond.

* Visit the Valentine Richmond History Center. This site was formerly known as the “Valentine Museum,” and that’s what most locals call it. This Museum is full of Richmond history and would not take a lot of time to visit. (www.richmondhistorycenter.com)

* Visit the Virginia Historical Society. This museum is filled with Virginia history and has large collections. You could visit the entire site or simply the current special exhibit. (www.vahistorical.org)

If your teens enjoy other types of MUSEUMS, consider the following:

* Edgar Allen Poe Museum, as mentioned previously. It’s very small, but features some interesting information about Poe’s life and his writings. It is said that Poe began his real literary career in Richmond, when he was a writer for the Southern Literary Messenger. (www.poemuseum.org)

* The Science Museum of Virginia has many hands-on exhibits about science. It also has the area’s only IMAX movie theater (check the website for current movies). (www.smv.org)

* Maymont – a 100 acre park and Victorian mansion. The park features many types of animals native to Virginia. Visitors can walk through the park, visit the Nature Center, and take tours of the Dooley Mansion. It’s a beautiful place, especially on a sunny day. (www.Maymont.org)

If your teens enjoy SHOPPING, consider the following locations:

* Carytown -- a few blocks near the Downtown area, this area has a wide selection of unique shops. The stores are not typical ';mall'; sites and include items such as: World of Mirth (lots of fun toys, cards, gifts); Ten Thousand Villages (global items); vintage clothing stores; an American Apparel store; lots of local restaurants; and even the historic Byrd Theater (movie theater). (www.carytown.org)

* Short Pump Town Center mall -- one of the two newest malls in this area. It%26#39;s an outdoor mall with lots of typical mall stores and restaurants. Located in the far west end of the Richmond area. (www.shortpumpmall.com)

* Stony Point Fashion Park mall -- the other new mall in this area. Again, an outdoor mall with lots of favorite stores. This mall is a little higher-end, however. It has the region%26#39;s only Saks Fifth Avenue store -- which was a big deal when it opened. (www.shopstonypoint.com)
