Redneck Riviera???

Say it isn%26#39;t true! It looks so beautiful there!

Redneck Riviera???

Where? Virginia Beach?

Redneck Riviera???

That%26#39;s what I heard.... :(

But then again, what exactly does that mean?

I%26#39;ve never heard of VB referred to that way. But frankly, I%26#39;ve never been anywhere in the US that COULDN%26#39;T be described that way. No matter where you go, you%26#39;ll run into folks with more dollars than sense, bad taste in fashion, and poor manners. Just don%26#39;t let it spoil your fun.

Or maybe the expression is a compliment -- beautiful beach like THE Riviera without the price tag.

It is beautiful, and not just the resort section. Biased because I live here....

As mentioned, there are many kinds in this world. When I go to the resort area I see a variety of people, but mostly see families having fun.

I think you will be happy here on your vacation!

Thank you! We got our VBFun packet in the mail the other day, now I just have to wade through it and do my research on where to stay...... :)

As someone said there%26#39;s people all over with more dollars than sense. We were in another country and someone who could afford an extended trip asked a clerk why they didn%26#39;t take good ol%26#39; Amuricun money. And went on and on about it. Just one of those people gives the memory of the ugly American, or, in the case of this topic, the redneck on his riviera.

But, no, click on my name and look up some of my posts describing VB. We actually enjoy going Christmas shopping there because their stores have such beautiful items and hi tech stuff. Lots of top-of-the-line areas; behavior code...you%26#39;ll see those famous %26#39;no bad language signs%26#39;, curfew; lots of national accolades...fittest, low crime, etc., and the fastest growing city in Va.

Hey (LOL) that reference is for my part of the world. Gulf Shores--Orange Beach Alabama to Panama City

Wiki says:

';Redneck Riviera';

The Emerald Coast is known colloquially as the Redneck Riviera, although this term is sometimes applied to a larger region of the coast from Mobile, Alabama to Apalachicola, Florida.

Redneck Riviera is also the title of a song by Tom T. Hall about this region. Lyrics include:

Gulf Shores up through Apalachicola

They got beaches of the whitest sand

Nobody cares if gramma%26#39;s got a tattoo

Or Bubba%26#39;s got a hot wing in his hand

The term is also often used in reference to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Too funny! Now it sounds like fun instead of a put-down! I%26#39;m just worried my kids will break the ';no-cussing'; law! :)

Being a Virginian, I%26#39;ve got to put in my two cents worth about Virginia Beach. Although it%26#39;s in the South and you%26#39;ll definitely run across a few rednecks, you can beat it for clean, well maintained beaches. There is an excellent patrol that ejects anyone who gets out of hand. Like most well-traveled beach areas, this one has its share of t-shirt and souvenir shops and a bunch of beach type food eateries, but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s as tacky as Myrtle Beach. If you%26#39;re visiting and want some good food next to the beach, you can%26#39;t beat Laverne%26#39;s. At the southern end of the beach is Rudee%26#39;s Inlet where there are a couple of very good seafood restaurants. Every now and then a jet buzzes over the beach from the nearby military air base, which is a big thrill to the kids because they go so fast. Enjoy!
