President's Park

Is this worth seeing?

President's Park

I%26#39;d like to hear about this place, too. I%26#39;ve read some postings on this site saying that it%26#39;s pretty tacky. I also had that feeling when I read the brochures about it. But who knows, the kids might like it.

Also, I felt really bad when I found out they now have a ';Ripley%26#39;s Believe it or Not';. In my opinion, ok for Branson, but not our precious Williamsburg!!! Any comments on that?

President's Park

No, not worth seeing.

Yes, it is tacky. It%26#39;s also up for sale....

Thanks!

Like macrac, I too wanted to know more about this ';amusement park';, what else is there besides statues of the Pres.? In my opinion from the road, I didn%26#39;t see any attraction there, to pull me in and take a gander at it.

Obviously, if it is already for sale, it wasn%26#39;t such a successful adventure to begin with.

I also agree with Mary, that a Ripley%26#39;s Believe it or NOT doesn%26#39;t belong in Williamsburg.

I haven%26#39;t been myself, so I kind of hesitated to post. However, I%26#39;ve talked to people who have been and thought it was wonderful. They say they%26#39;ve learned more than they expected, and it was fun for the children as well.

When one of the presidents recently died (Reagan or Ford maybe?), the park was open so those who wanted to visit and pay their respects could do so. I thought that was good of them, certainly something they didn%26#39;t have to do.

My understanding is, the park isn%26#39;t for sale because it isn%26#39;t successful. Several partners were in involved, and some just wanted out, to move on to something else.

I think some of you are confusing ';Colonial Williamsburg'; with The City of Williamsburg. The former, the restored area, is a small geopgraphic area within the City.

Ripley%26#39;s is in the City - as are many other businesses, such a Candle Factory, Prime Outlets, many chain restaurants and assorted businesses that cater to tourists and residents alike. Ripley%26#39;s, while not my cup of tea, has just as much right as the shopping center down the street to try and make $$. If an outlet mall is OK Ripley%26#39;s surely is!

Certainly none of these, including Ripley%26#39;s belongs in CW and would not be allowed. The immediate surrounding areas of James City County, York County and Charles City County all have parts of them with ';williamsburg'; mailing addresses - since these are assigned by the Post Office.

Once you are a block away from CW proper it%26#39;s hard to tell you are near the restored area - and by the time you are 1/2 mile away it is just like any other area.

I know people who live here and they have never toured CW - walk down DOG Street and dine at the restaurants in Merchant%26#39;s Square (we don%26#39;t have many good dining options!).

Williamsburg and Colonial williamsburg are 2 unique entities.

I was never confused with CW and Williamsburg being one and the same. You are correct in your statement that the two are two seperate entities. Ripley%26#39;s does have the right to be there, my comment was, I just thought that it seemed ';out of place'; there.

And if , the President%26#39;s Park is educational like stated , then that is a wonderful thing. Neither one of the businesses is my cup of tea, but to each his own.

Nope, I%26#39;m not confused, either. Just stating my opinion on RBION!!

We found President%26#39;s Park by accident while we were heading to Water Country. I found nothing tacky about it, actually it was very informative %26amp; educational . We had 4 young adults ( they would kill me if I said kids) and all of them said it was great.

There was so much information about each President that we didn%26#39;t know, even if you%26#39;re not a history buff it really is something to see.I was surprised there wasn%26#39;t more advertising about President%26#39;s Park if we didn%26#39;t see those huge statues from the road, we would have missed going there.

It definitely is not an amusement park but as I heard somewhere it%26#39;%26#39;s like an ';outdoor museum';

That%26#39;s good to know. Will take my grandson there when we take him with us on one of our trips. Anything that helps the kids learn about American History is all right with me. If it is fun for them, then, all the better. Thanks for the info.
