Can anyone give a suggestiong for a reasonable place (up to 200/night) to stay, in Old Town Alexandria for Scottish Walk weekend in Dec %26#39;08? We want to be close to the action.
place to stay in Old Town Alexandria
The most centrally-located hotel is the new Hotel Monaco, a Kimpton hotel. It was scheduled to open this month (newly renovated from previous hotel incarnations). Not sure if it has, but should certainly be up and running by December! :) Not sure what the rates will be but Dec. tends to be fairly low rates, especially over weekends. Otherwise, there%26#39;s the Morrison House which might offer decent rates then. Next choices would be the hotels around the King Street metro - Residence Inn, Hilton, Embassy Suites.
Good luck!
place to stay in Old Town Alexandria
My first recommendation would be Morrison House...but, as the first reviewer said, it might be pricey. My wife %26amp; I have stayed there three times and it is wonderful. The staff is the best of any hotel in the area. The lobby is small, but has a nice sitting area, library %26amp; a complementary wine reception in the evening. The rooms are comfortable %26amp; decorated nicely. Again, I can%26#39;t say enough about the staff! If you can get a decent rate, take it!
I have stayed at Embassy Suites %26amp; Hampton and they%26#39;re both nice, great beds, and much closer to Metro but farther from the central part of King St (Old Town.)
The new Hotel Monaco looks really good - it has undergone extensive renovations - excellent restaurant onsite and it is in the heart of Old Town - you can easily go to the market on Saturday morning before the parade (the market is located on Market Square in front of the city hall - great place for holiday shoppping).
Hi 5139Alex
Would you know are there any budget hotels (about USD100/night) in old town Alexandria and is accessible to the town centre?
Couldn%26#39;t really find much info on budget hotels in alexandria so would really appreciate it if you or other forumers would help.
Is Courtyard by Marriott/Alexandria at 2700 Eisenhower Ave very far from the town centre?
Thanks!
Belletan -
If the Courtyard is right at the Eisehower Ave. metro station, then you%26#39;re just one stop from the King Street metro, which is the one to use for Old Town. However, it%26#39;s still a bit of a walk to get to the center of Old Town from the metro. You could take the Dash bus from the metro, though. Check with the hotel - they may have a shuttle into Old Town, which would make it quite convenient.
You might also want to check the Best Western Old Colony Inn or the Holiday Inn Express - they both sometimes have better rates then the hotels right by the King Street Metro (they%26#39;re on the north side of Old Town - still walking distance to the center of Old Town, though, if you don%26#39;t mind a several block walk.)
Try the Residence Inn on Duke St or Hilton on King St in Old Town Alexandria. Both handy to the King St metro station, and an easy walk to the Old Town action. Have stayed at both for about $100/ night incl free breakfast %26amp; free parking.
Hi Mopsydog!
Oh, I didn%26#39;t know or realised that the Courtyard is right by the Eisehower Ave. metro station. Thanks for informing me.
I have emailed Courtyard to ask about their shuttle. Would you know if I walked from Courtyard to the town centre at King St, how long it would take and is it safe?
Will check out Best Western Old Colony Inn or the Holiday Inn Express later. Are these hotels %26#39;better%26#39; than Courtyard and closer to town center compared to Courtyard?
Thanks in advance for answering :)
Hi Seafarin!
I did a quick check on Residence Inn on Duke St and Hilton on King St in Old Town Alexandria. No special rate of $100. You were really lucky to get it at that rate.
Thanks for your information anyway :)

Belletan - I said ';IF'; the Courtyard is by the metro then it%26#39;s a good place to stay. I%26#39;m not actually sure how close it is to metro. I would say that you can not walk into Old Town from there, but again, I would check with the hotel. The area has been built up quite a bit recently. Perhaps there is a convenient way to walk to Old Town now.
Hi Mopsydog
I checked with Courtyard. They are half a mile from the Eisenhower metrorail station and they have free van shuttle to the station and old town.
I am deciding between Courtyard and Holiday Inn in historical district Alexandria.
Thanks for all the information given. You are a gem :)
