We (myself, hubby and 13 yr old son, who loves history) will be arriving in Williamsburg this Saturday, March 22 and leaving on Tuesday afternoon. We won%26#39;t arrive until around 2:00pm on Saturday, we need to check into our hotel %26#39;The Williamsburg Hospitality House%26#39; first because we got a package deal complete with tickets to CW, Jamestown and Yorktown. Would we have enough time to visit Yorktown on that day?
On Sunday we thought of spending the whole day in CW. On Monday, part of the day at Jamestown and then doing some shopping. How does that sound? Will that be enough time for everything?
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!
How much time at Yorktown and Jamestown?Yorktown Battlefield Visitors Center is open 9am-5pm, but the grounds don%26#39;t close until sunset. Your time will be tight but you can get a decent overview. Go to www.nps.gov/york/planyourvisit/index.htm and determine what you want to do. You%26#39;ll probably arrive by 3:30pm, go to the visitors center, several historic bldgs close at 4:30pm so see what you can quickly and take the self guided auto, about an hour, and that will probably take most of your time. You may want to have dinner on the Yorktown riverfront. One day in CW will be fine, although it%26#39;s easy to spend more time there; Monday in Jamestown with some time for shopping will work too. Enjoy the area.
How much time at Yorktown and Jamestown?There are two Yorktown sites,and two Jamestown sites. I generally recommend one day for the 2 Jamestowns and one day for the 2 Yorktowns, plus 2 days for CW. For an overview and a taste, you%26#39;ll be OK. You%26#39;ll probably start planning your next trip on your way home, though, if you love it like I do!
I know, I%26#39;m already worried about not having enough time! My son has all week off for spring break, unfortunately hubby and I have to be back at work on Wednesday---bummer.
ZeeW, thanks so much for the suggestins! Actually we are arriving on Saturday afternoon, but after reading all the posts here, I think we%26#39;ve decided to what you suggested and check into our hotel first, eat a nice dinner and then walk around CW that evening. (What time does the CW buildings close on Saturday and Sunday?) Then on Sunday we%26#39;ll go back to CW and spend the day, then on Monday we%26#39;ll do Jamestown first and then Yorktown, I%26#39;m hoping to eat at the Carrot Tree in Yorktown that evening. On Tuesday we have a few hours before we have to head for home so we might do some shopping then.
I%26#39;m keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn%26#39;t rain!!!!
Carrot Tree is on my list as well. Let me know if you enjoyed your meal.
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;What time does the CW buildings close on Saturday and Sunday?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
The CW buildings, with a few exceptions, are open until 5 daily. ';This Week'; is the Map and Program Guide. It indicates which buildings are open, and the closing time. It%26#39;s available at several locations; it%26#39;s a good idea to be sure to get one Saturday so you can plan your Sunday.
There is a lot to see at Jamestowne Settlement, so make sure you get there early enough. The inside exhibits are excellant and take quite a bit of time so if you tend to want to look and read everything,
( which I am one of those slow museum creepers,) make sure you have enough time to also get to the outside exhibits, which your son will absolutely love. JS closes when it says it closes and they shoosh people out so hope you have enough time for it.
The Carrot Tree in Yorktown closed at 3 when we were there and we barely made it in. We had just eaten before we got there, so we had carrot cake (of course) and coffee, both of which was very good. It%26#39;s a cute little house and I thinks it%26#39;s one of the oldest ones in town.
Have a wonderful time, wish I was there.
