Help a first timer to Williamsburg!

We will be in the Williamsburg%26#39;s area from March 22 through the 25. We also would like to visit Jamestown and Yorktown. But I%26#39;m a bit confused about all the tickets to different things to do in Williamsburg? Does everything in Williamsburg require a different ticket? My traveling party consists of myself, hubby (mid-forties) and our history loving 13 year old son. Could you tell me some %26#39;must dos%26#39; for CW? Also, can I buy tickets online?

I am also going this same week with my husband and two children, ten and six year old boy and girl. TO answer the above post - I have seen tickets offered online at gowilliamsburg.com. I was also wondering if anyone could advise where you can get the best deal on tickets for attractions and which attractions are a ';must see';.

We are planning on Busch Gardens, Williamsburg (one day each enough for these?) and we%26#39;d like to see Jamestown and Yorktown as well. Our plans are very flexible so if anyone had any recommendations I%26#39;d like to hear them!! As far as what we like - a bit of everything! The kids love history, museums, art, animals, parks - both amusement and natural, and regular fun stuff!! They have pretty long attention spans but, like with all children, they will run out of steam after a while!! We%26#39;d like to mix it up so we can all enjoy our mini-break!!

Thanks in advance for anyone else who can help out!

You can buy the Historic Triangle ticket at the regional visitors center at CW. It%26#39;s good for Colonial Williamsburg, both Jamestown sites, and both Yorktown sites.

If you haven%26#39;t yet visited the CW website, go to www.history.org or www.cwf.org. You will find much helpful information that will help you plan your visit. I generally recommend visiting the main buildings (Capitol, Courthouse, and Governor%26#39;s Palace, plus one or more trade sites (gunsmith, cabinet maker, mantua (dress) maker, and peruke (wig) maker are several examples. A carriage or wagon ride is fun, and you can ask questions of your driver. There is an orientation walk that I recommend you take at the beginning of your visit; you%26#39;ll find it helpful.

Welcome to Williamsburg, and ask more questions as they arise!

Thanks again Zoey - very helpful!! Be careful what you wish for - I%26#39;m sure more questions will arise!! :)

Don%26#39;t miss the new museum that is just a little walk from the Jamestown ';real'; site -- the archeology Jamestown. It is beautifully done.

Also, at the Jamestown rebuilt village, there is an exhibition hall upstairs in the vistor center that has changing exhibits -- the things in there were so good when we visited, we came back later in the week to finish seeing everything.

Your group of 2 adults %26amp; history loving 13 yr old are in exactly the right demographic to enjoy this exhibit hall.

If you are very history loving %26amp; quite discerning, you might be a bit disappointed in the ';Gee Whiz, We%26#39;re Colonial!'; aspects of CW. And, there are not nearly enough interpreters of color in the town -- does not reflect historical reality. But they do their best with the ongoing dramatizations. I suggest following those around for much of a day.

Yorktown has the NPS park %26amp; battlefield but there is also a waterside small town where you can walk up the street %26amp; enjoy the well preserved houses, and down by the water the view of the maritime traffic. You can even see the real ';cave'; where people sheltered from bombardment during battles.

We bought historic triangle tickets when we got there, in the visitor center at CW. If your teen appreciates irony, ask him to remember the scene in Shrek I where the Donkey %26amp; Shrek come to the castle %26amp; everything is deserted -- but the music is playing the shops all have themed merchandise in the windows and there are the rope lines set up in front of the ticket booth.

You will have a grand time-- wear sturdy shoes!

Thanks so much for the info! I%26#39;m printing all this out!
