Virginia to florida...possible ?????????

Hi,

me and my partner are thinking of a trip to the usa at the end of june, we did the west coast a few years ago (sanfrancisco to san diego) this time we fancy virginia to florida, are we being a bit optimistic, we would love to see the blue ridge mountains and so on, it would be a two week holiday, so we plan to drve for one week and rest for the second in florida, any info would be really helpfull.. weather, things to see and do, best airport from london england..(we would like to fly home from tampa. many thanks

Virginia to florida...possible ?????????

Sounds like a great trip and totally doable. Do you want to include DC in your trip? If yes, look at flights to Reagan National or Dulles airposts; if no, look at Norfolk, Richmond, depending on your first stops. From DC, the Shenandoah National Park is an hour drive, then 105 miles of beautiful Skyline Dr to Waynesboro and the beginning of The Blue Ridge Parkway with many wonderful stops to make along the way. Some other areas to consider in the Va leg of your tour; Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Jamestown, if you like the beach include Va Beach. June weather in Va is usually 85+ (F) and humid, but not as hot or humid as Fla. The most direct route from Va to Fla is I95, it%26#39;s not scenic but you can get on and off easily. Check out a map, see what interests you, post with additional questions. Happy trails.

Yes, totally doable. In fact, I know people who drive from VA to FL in a day - I%26#39;m not that happy a traveler, so we do it in 2. But then, we%26#39;re not sight-seeing along the way.

Definitely plan to check out Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.

Thanks

to all that have replied, its been very helpfull, cant wait to go now!!

thanks again jim.

If you want to do Skyline drive, for sure, I would suggest you fly into Dulles. Richmond or Norfolk would be backtracking.

If you want to add D.C. to the list, then Dulles or Reagan National Airport-or even BWI, you can find cheap flights into BWI, and if you are going to have a car, it isn%26#39;t so bad. Just beware of traffic around Washington, D.C.

Really nice is a trip down the Outer Banks of N.C. There are ferries that take you across to Ocracoke island and then south from there. The first ferry is about 1 hour the second over two.

Second the recommendation for Charleston SC. FABULOUS town. You may want to make sure you have read Gone with the Wind to get you in the mood for the south.
