Good time of year for CW?

Hi! My family is planning a trip to Virginia for sometime in the fall. We have picked fall for the sole purpose of avoiding summer crowds. We are thinking early October... anyone know if this is a good time of year to visit the area to avoid large crowds? We are also planning to go to Busch Gardens.. is the amusement park really busy that time of year? We are flexible and can change our trip dates if a different time of year is better.

Good time of year for CW?

That is a good time to visit Williamsburg. The weather is usually mild that time of year %26amp; the leaves are beginning to change so it is really beautiful. The summer crowd is gone, but you will have some %26#39;fall foliage visitors%26#39;. But, that is an especially busy time for Busch Gardens, though, because that is when they are having %26#39;Howl O%26#39;Scream%26#39;, %26amp; that is one of their peak attendance times.

The best time I think to be past the summer crowds is the two weeks of September, right after Labor Day, but before %26#39;Howl O%26#39;Scream%26#39; starts at Busch Gardens. You won%26#39;t find the pretty autumn leaves yet though :(. Also, to avoid crowds for both places, try to stay away from the weekends. Hope that helps.

Good time of year for CW?

Busch Gardens is open only on weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) after Labor Day until the end of Oct. Fall is the best time to come because summer crowds are gone and the weather is usually perfect. Don%26#39;t expect fall foliage in this area until Nov. Early Oct. sounds great.

Thank-you both for your information!! It is very much appreciated since we are coming from Kansas and have never been in Virginia, before. We are lookinh forward to it.

Thanks, again!

We visited CW last October for four days (8-12). Even though the weather was unseasonably hot, we had a great time. There were no large crowds, the historic sites and houses were easy to get into, and Revolutionary City was quite entertaining. If you are a first-time visitor, tour the Wythe House, the Peyton Randolph House, the Palace, the Capitol, and be sure to participate in a Courthouse activity. Visit as many trade sites as you can; the wig maker, the milliner, the shoemaker are some of our favorites. Have lunch or dinner at a tavern.

Added details - Howl O%26#39; Scream begins at Busch Gardens September 14. Howl O%26#39; Scream is a huge peak time - the crowds that come in the fall with Howl O%26#39; Scream can rival any summer crowds there, so if you want to avoid crowds, definitely avoid anytime after Sept 14 (we have season%26#39;s passes %26amp; we know, lol). If you come up sometime after Labor Day, but before that time, you could hit other surrounding attractions/areas during any weekdays, in Williamsburg, Yorktown, Newport News, Virginia Beach. And hit Busch Gardens on the weekend of your stay, they will be opened Fridays, Saturdays %26amp; Sundays during that time (Sunday would be your least crowded day)

Our last trip was in early May, although we%26#39;ve visited anywhere from April through October.

One August it was sooo hot, the shuttle bus driver at Busch Gardens said they had never had weather like it. I think the heat factor - heat and humidity was over 110 degrees. My mother spent most of her vacation in our air conditioned timeshare.

April and May, September and October are ideal. Fewer crowds and a slower pace. Not everything may be open, or open only on weekends, but you get to savor and enjoy the expeience a little better.

Unfortunately, I would love to visit Williamsburg for Thanksgiving or Christmans, but I%26#39;m an asthmatic and severely allegic to smoke. With all of the fireplaces cranked into high gear, I just couldn%26#39;t tolerate it.

Good luck and enjoy!

So what about early May? We are hoping to avoid crowds as well?

I%26#39;m looking at going next spring but don%26#39;t want to go until the CW spring schedule is in effect. Since that happened sometime in March, can anyone tell me about what week the spring schedule starts? Also, what week did BG open up this year?

Thanks

girlzmom, we%26#39;ve been there at differant times in May, and it%26#39;s quite nice. I didn%26#39;t think it was crowded at all. Even during graduation week, it didn%26#39;t seem too crowded. We%26#39;ve always gone in the spring and fall.

Sunflower, early October, or anytime in Ocotber would be great, but I%26#39;ve never been there during that ';howl o scream'; thing.

Thanks so much! I am looking forward to cooler weather and less people!
