Passing through the Hampton Rds.area over the 4th of July week-end. Looking for the best location for fireworks, restaurants, things to do for two families traveling together, one with small children(2 and 4 yrs.) the other with young adults 21 plus. Any suggestions on which hotel or location is best?
Thanks
Norfolk Marriott vs. Newport News Marriott???
The Norfolk Marriott Waterside has great reviews. It is located in downtown and convenient (easy walking distance) to lots of wonderful local restaurants and shops and the waterfront where there will be 4th of July fireworks. Also w/in walking is battleship USS Wisconsin (free), Nauticus Museum good for all ages, MacArthur Memorial, and downtown waterfront with tours on Carrie B, American Rover sailboat, Victory Rover tour Naval Base, and lunch and dinner cruises. Plus it%26#39;s nice to just sit and enjoy the sights along the waterfront. I am not familiar with the Newport News Mariott but you can check the reviews. The Newport News/Hampton area has great museums including Mariners, Air %26amp; Space, Va Living Museum. You%26#39;ll find plenty to do in the area, post again if more questions. Enjoy your time here.
Norfolk Marriott vs. Newport News Marriott???
Well, it depends how much driving you want to do from the hotel. Norfolk is more centrally located to lots of things. More shops and restaurants to visit on foot. Granby Street has a number of good bars and restaurants all of which are lively Thursday - Sunday.
The Newport News Marriott is centrally located in Newport News%26#39;s new city center area. There are actually a number of great shops and restaurants here too. The view isn%26#39;t as nice as Norfolk%26#39;s, but there is a several acre fountain in the front.
The three best locations for fireworks are usually the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, downtown Norfolk, and Colonial Williamsburg. Norfolk Marriott puts you right in downtown for those. The others you%26#39;d have to drive to. If you want Wburg%26#39;s, then Newport News is closer. If you want the Oceanfront, then Norfolk is closer.
