Hi, I%26#39;m actually coming from CT to the Outer Banks, and trying to avoid the DC and Richmond traffic.
It looks like we can stay overnight in Waldorf MD, and then mapquest has us taking 17S. My question is - (and we%26#39;re driving down on Saturday) what is that highway like? Or should I bite the bullet and get over to 95, and drive through Richmond?
the Chesapeake Bridge Bay Tunnel is Not an option - Saturday is calling for thunderstorms.
thanks
Route 17S
We travel from western PA to Williamsburg, and route 17 is our road of choice. Most of it is 4-lanes, very nice, not as much traffic as on 95.
Route 17S
Thank you so much
Hi jean, I agree with RQT, Route 17 is a very nice drive. You go thru all these quaint little towns and in some places you see great big homes on the river, which I believe is the Rappahanuck, not quite sure.
We traveled that route at least 3 times and there was never much traffic. You%26#39;ll go thru Glouscester County Courthouse, which in itself is quite historic.
We did go over the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel one time, but weather was good. It was an adventure, I tell you, a good one, tho. I really try to avoid the tunnels and highways around Hampton Roads!!! Horrible traffic and they go so fast. Scares me!! Anyway, have a great time.
thank you. I%26#39;m looking forward to our vacation.
