Hotel choices close to Hilton Alexandria Mark Center

I am attending a conference at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center and am wondering about other hotel choices that are close (like walking distance or Metro) that maybe wouldn%26#39;t cost me so much. Also I would like to be in an area where I could check out other sites like the Old Town area. It%26#39;s hard to tell from the maps I%26#39;ve seen what is close to the conference center. Thanks for any information. I have stayed in DC before but haven%26#39;t been to Alexandria.

Unfortunately, Mark Center is not close to Old Town nor does it have a nearby metro stop. There may be bus routes that service the area (sorry--not an expert on the bus system).

At Mark Center you are several miles west of the heart of Old Town, essentially in a business park. There are a couple of restaurants but that%26#39;s about it. If you really want to spend your down time exploring Alexandria, I%26#39;d choose a hotel in Old Town and cab it to your conference sesssions.

I believe there is a Sheraton within walking distance of the Hilton Mark Center, but you%26#39;d have to cross a very busy intersection to get there so I wouldn%26#39;t really advise it. I agree with the other poster. If you can find a more affordable option in Old Town, stay there and take a cab to the conference. If your dates are set, you might want to take your chances with Hotwire. Go for a 4* in Old Town for a very low price. Worst case scenario, you%26#39;ll be somewhat out of the way from where you want to be, but you might save a bundle on your room and spend the savings on cabs.
